Good Hope Hand Centre

A team of specialists, dedicated to improve your quality of life

Dr. Neil Kruger

SPECIALIST HAND AND WRIST ORTHOPAEDIC SURGEON

I am a specialist hand and wrist orthopaedic surgeon based in Cape Town. I treat all hand and wrist conditions, ranging from traumatic injuries of the hand and wrist (including microvascular replantation), to thumb, finger and wrist arthritis.

I have high level experience and skill at arthroscopic, endoscopic and joint replacement surgery of the hand and wrist, and manage peripheral nerve compression syndromes like carpal and cubital tunnel syndrome daily. I also maintain strong academic ties, working as a consultant in the Martin Singer Hand Unit at the University of Cape Town and at Red Cross Children’s Hospital treating congenital hand conditions. I regularly attend and present at local and international hand congresses, and train future orthopaedic and plastic surgeons on hand conditions at both Groote Schuur and Red Cross Childrens hospital.

I love and take great pride in my work, and am incredibly proud to have founded the Good Hope Hand Centre – a centre with a dedicated team to help eliminate your pain and restore your function.

Tammy’s curiosity in Hand Therapy was ignited in high school, when she observed a family friend going through major injury rehabilitation. It lead her to study Occupational Therapy at UCT, where her interest in the hands specialty was stoked, doing practical placements in both Hands and Burns care as a student. Graduating in 2000, she was then fortunate to get grounded early professional experience in at the Cape Hand Clinic (Vincent Pallotti, Cape Town) spending a collective 8 years with the team. She also spent 6 years with Therapy in Action (Stellenbosch & Somerset West), with a strong focus on work related injuries and expanding the specialist hand therapy service in the Helderberg area. Aside from her Cape Town work, Tammy has gained international experience both in and out of the Hand Therapy sector. She worked for an humanitarian NGO (Medair) in Uganda as a program manager serving war-affected children. She also spent >2 years in Ethiopia with The Leprosy Mission International, as a consultant at a major training hospital in Addis Ababa (ALERT), training local OT and Physiotherapists as well as contributing to rehabilitation policy development with the Ministry of Health.
